About ABTCA

The All Breed Training Club of Akron, Inc. (ABTCA) was founded in 1949 by a small group of friends who enjoyed getting together to train their dogs.  ABTCA became a member of the American Kennel Club in 1950.  We enjoy teaching people to teach their dogs!

Our objectives for over 50 years have been to advance the best interests of dogs and dog manners, especially in the area of obedience training (which involves not only household manners, but dog shows, matches, obedience shows, field trials, and other exhibitions of obedience-trained dogs).

We are a nonprofit organization under Section 501(c)(7) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Training/meeting location

ABTCA's building is located on the Summit County Fairgrounds property, in Tallmadge, Ohio, on E. Howe Road.  We are three miles east of State Route 8, and about ½ mile east of State Route 91.  Click here for a map

Our building is fully matted for your dog's safety and comfort.  We welcome all dogs and the people who love and own them!

In the event of bad weather, please call the club phone (330-630-0418) after 3:00 pm to check for cancellations.

ABTCA closes for the Summit County Fair from mid-July until mid-August.  Depending on the calendar, we usually close over the Christmas and New Year's holiday period.

Membership/meetings

Are you interested in sharing your love of dogs and concern for their well-being with others?  Membership is open to all individuals 18 years of age or older.  New members are considered associates for their first year, and are voted on for full membership after that time.  Dues are $15 per person per year.  Meetings are generally held on the first Saturday of each month at 6:00 pm, and guests are welcome!

Past programs have included: veterinarians speaking on a variety of topics including acupuncture, hydrotherapy and massage, eye diseases and trauma; a Summit County animal control officer on their work; holistic practitioners; Summit-Metro K9 Association (K9 officers in Summit and Portage counties); and the director of the Humane Society of Greater Akron.
